For most newborn babies the world is full of limitless possibilities; For millions of children in conflict countries, however, their future at birth appears bleak indeed. There are life-threatening illnesses and diseases to overcome, poverty to contend with, and a general lack of educational opportunities.

With regard to the latter, the international non-profit organization Save the Children in 2005 launched Rewrite the Future which seeks to provide supplies, books and uniforms to those who need it most.

Their efforts are succeeding. Rewrite the Future has thus far assisted ten million children in receiving a better education and has enrolled 1 million children into school — the equivalent of opening two schools every day.

Celebrity dad Ben Stiller has signed on to the cause, and recently made his first trip to Africa to witness firsthand how Rewrite the Future is working.

In Karamoja, Uganda Ben visited several different projects funded by the charity and spent time with the schoolchildren who have benefited as a result.

“[The] aim is to integrate [an educational framework] into the fabric of what’s going on there, from the inside out…it’s about helping people to help themselves,” he explains. “It’s different from delivering a shipment of grain. It’s really about connecting with people.” He adds,

“As a person, and seeing what’s going on in the world, there’s only so much you can take before you go ‘I’ve just got to try to do something,’ whether it seems cynical or not.”

Another way Ben is trying to help is withHelp Me Spread Goodness. The comedy, which Ben is directing, tells the tale of a Nigerian email scam victim who travels to Africa to track down the man who scammed him and who along the way learns about the struggles of those who live there.

Produced by Participant Media — a studio which requires its films to carry a message of social change and awareness — Help Me Spread Goodness is due in theaters in 2011.

The need for greater educational opportunities is particularly acute in conflict countries like Haiti, which Ben has also visited, and the Middle East. To that end, Save the Children has enabled over 60,000 children in Afghanistan to go school for the first time — many of them girls. Noting that education can contribute to economic growth and stability, Save the Children says that every additional year of formal schooling reduces the chance of males becoming involved in conflict by 20%.

“With education, children have the opportunity to break the cycle of war and poverty.”

Although global aid to educational initiatives is on the rise, there is much work yet to be done. Over half of the 75 million children out of school — 40 million — still live in countries affected by conflict, Save the Children estimates. To find out how you can help, click here.

Every woman wants to smell divine. But the quest for the right fragrance can be as elusive as that search for the perfect Prince Charming. Yes, there are plenty of fish in the sea. And, sure, it's easy to steer clear of the cheaper, less desirable, options. But even when you limit yourself to the high-end stuff, the choice of fragrance is overwhelming.

Shopping for perfume or cologne is additionally complicated by the fact that the olfactory system quickly becomes overwhelmed. After three or four fragrances, your ability to differentiate between scents is probably shot. And, because you absolutely have to try fragrance on your own skin (it will react differently with each person's skin), you've probably run out of places to spritz it too!

Memory & Smell:

While cologne and perfume are known for providing fragrance, perfume bottles have long been sought after for their display-worthy design.

Our sense of smell is deeply connected to our faculty of memory. Marcel Proust, the French author, described in great detail how a smell from childhood can trigger an intense and involuntary graphic memory of a certain event and emotional state.

It makes sense, then, that we are attracted to fragrances that are somehow connected to positive memories, however abstractly. The types of fragrance each of us is drawn to will fall into one of two camps: light and dark.

A Lighter Fragrance Touch

As the name suggests, light fragrances are floral, ozonic and fresh. They evoke a sense cleanliness and youth, smelling of line-dried laundry and fresh growth, of freshly chopped wood, spring rain and newborn babies.

Even in the sterile environment that most modern homes and offices epitomize, there exists a desire for a fragrance that spells "clean", but yet adds gentle warmth to our anonymous surroundings. Lighter scents accomplish this task with subtlety and style. Their wearers are vivacious and playful, yet they don't take themselves too seriously.

But though these discount designer fragrances are light, they are not necessarily un-complex: The bouquet can be a blend of many floral fragrances, with dashes of fruit, citrus, water or 'green' notes such as grass and herbs, which will evolve differently on each wearer.

A Little on the Darker Side

At the other end of the Globe, there are dark fragrances. Dark scents are not the natural choice of most girls: They're gritty, tenacious, dirty and full of depth. They smell like old books, of worn leather, wet earth and rotting wood.

The original purpose of all fragrance was, of course, to stop us from stinking in times when people could not bathe daily; hence the name "toilet water" or eau de toilette. The ingredients chosen were ones that signalled freshness, like lemon, lavender and roses; ingredients we associate with lighter scents. But people soon developed a use for fragrance beyond that of plain deodorizer, and there lies the origin of darker fragrances.

In 18th century France, perfumers began to add excrement, diluted extremely, to floral fragrances to create depth and complexity. Nowadays, the equivalent ingredient is musk, which will add an animal note to any fragrance.

Of course, the original perfumer employs these ingredients with skill. Adding musk to floral and fruit scents will create a sickly, sweet scent, that's at once nauseating and luxurious. Dark fragrances speak of a woman who is sexual, confident, mysterious and passionate.

Signature Scents:

Whether you gravitate towards dark or light perfume or cologne, at some point you'll find one you adore. Then the inevitable question becomes whether that fragrance is a life-long love or a fickle fling.

But there's an inherent Catch-22 in adopting a signature scent: On one hand, you'll leave a definite imprint on people's subconscious memory. You'll be forever associated with that fragrance and it will become a part of your personality, a part of your identity - like the colour of your eyes or the sound of your laughter.

On the other hand, the longer you wear a fragrance, the less you'll be able to detect it yourself. You won't yourself enjoy the waft of fragrance that a man smells when he kisses the nape of your neck. You'll also have to become a pro about how much you apply. Those ghastly ladies who wear too much perfume probably can't smell the fact they've gone overboard!

Myself, I'm a big fan of the signature scent. I've been wearing the same fragrance for more than 15 years and although I have had the odd affair with another fragrance, I've always come back to my dependable signature scent. And returning has been like reconnecting with an old lover; there's a sense of familiarity and reinforcement of a deeply-ingrained identity.<

Star Power:

But perfume and cologne is not all about sensual pleasure. As an estimated US$2.8 billion dollar industry, there's tough competition to stake and maintain a hold in the fragrance market. And what better to boost sales than a peppering of star-power?

Stars like Britney Spears and Sarah-Jessica Parker have, with varying degrees of involvement, lent their names to fragrances. But, while a star certainly adds sizzle, they are no guarantee of success.

Celebrity fragrance may have initial pull with a loyal fan-base, but such discount perfumes will unlikely have the longevity of more established fragrances. Chanel No. 5 has been around since 1921, Guerlain Mitsuoko was created in 1919 and Shalimar has been around since 1925. These fragrances tell a story of a bygone era, yet are still wearable and coveted nearly a century later. Will we be able to say the same thing about Curious by Britney Spears?

At the end of the day, if any discount fragrance is going to develop a loyal following, it has to seduce our senses and not simply appeal to a fickle fashion trend. After all, a woman's relationship with her fragrance is a complex one, grown over time. The fragrance that will ultimately make us fall in love is one that is an ineffable expression of our true selves.

Christian Slater: ‘Having Kids Is a Phenomenal Eye-Opener’

Some roles hit closer to home than others, and for Christian Slaterportraying a detective haunted by the disappearance of his daughter on the new show The Forgotten is one of them.

“I certainly know that I can identify with loving your family and loving your kids and thinking they’re the most important things in your life,” says the 40-year-old dad-of-two. “Losing one of them is just not something you want to give a lot of thought to, but I do face it on the show.”

For a time, the Heathers star admits that high school was something else to be avoided but that all changed several years ago when Christian obtained his GED. Noting that “having kids is a phenomenal eye-opener,” Christian says that after welcoming Jaden Christopher, 10, and Eliana Sophia, 8, his “whole idea on education started to shift just a little bit.”

“I definitely wanted them to finish high school, but I hadn’t finished high school. So I knew that if I tried to push them, I would lose the argument because they’d be like, ‘Hey dad, you never finished.’ So I went and sat in a classroom with a bunch of students and got my GED.”

So powerful was the experience, Christian now volunteers with the Get Schooled initiative recently launched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Association. “I’m helping raise the awareness of how many high-school dropouts there actually are a year, about a million students.,” he explains. “It’s a very, very scary statistic, and you know, it needs to be paid attention to. So, ironically, as a result of a decision I made 10 years ago, I’ve become an educational ambassador.”

Christian adds that he hopes his passion for learning is evident to Jaden and Eliana. “We lead, of course…by example, and try to be the best examples we can be for them,” he notes. “I think it just helps all around.”

“Lately, I’ve been reading the Nancy Drew books to my kids, and I just do what I can to encourage them to be little readers. We started going through three chapters of Nancy Drew every night, and they’re so into it. It’s about the idea of cliff-hangers in the stories, which is keeping them engaged. Their enthusiasm has really kind of got me very excited about it.”

Jaden and Eliana are Christian’s children with ex-wife Ryan Haddon. The Forgotten airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.

Maxine Bahns: ‘Happy Couple Equals a Happy Baby’

A veteran triathlete — she has competed in over 30, including the 2001 Hawaii Ironman — no one was more surprised than Maxine Bahns herself when she stopped training and watching what she ate following thebirth of her daughter, Madison Rose, in March.

In the September issue of Experience Lifemagazine, the actress reveals that adjusting to the needs of a newborn left her with little time for much else, including cooking.

“My husband [Patrick] for some crazy reason, loves Top Ramen, and I normally would never, ever eat that, but it was the only thing in the cupboard,” she says.

Fortunately, it didn’t take Maxine long to realize the effects her unhealthy habits were having on her body.

“My fall off the health wagon was short-lived,” she reports. “When I started exercising and eating clean again, I looked and felt so much better.”

While a physically fit Maxine — who believes that her dedication to prenatal yoga led to her 20-minute delivery — Patrick and 6-month-old Madison have settled into their routine as a family of three, the Mentalist actress admits it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.

Once free to go as they pleased, the reality of life with baby was a hard hit for the couple. Says Patrick,

“At 39, I was so used to doing whatever the heck I wanted, whenever I wanted. Having a child totally shifted our priorities — now you just tend to her whenever she needs you.”

With the addition of a part-time nanny to care for their daughter, both Maxine and Patrick have regained a bit of their freedom. “Pat and I have really made a concerted effort to spend time alone together, to spend a lot of time as a family and to check in. A happy couple equals a happy baby. I know that Madison picks up on our energy, so it’s important that we communicate and are just very supportive of one another.”

Not unlike most parents, despite their hopes that Madison will follow in their footsteps when it comes to a physically fit lifestyle, the couple plan to encourage her to seek happiness. “I would really love it if she was athletic,” she explains. “But mostly I just want her to do what makes her happy, and to be a good person — kind, loving, compassionate, and honest.”

Time moves fast, and Poppy Montgomery wants to make the most of hers with son Jackson Phillip Deveraux, 20 months. “I have been working since he was born,” she told Celebrity Baby Blog at the Pink Party to benefit the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Research Institute in Los Angeles on Saturday, “so I am going to take the rest of this year just to be with him.”

Although she will “re-evaluate” the situation in January when Jackson begins preschool, for now the twosome have been passing the time much like any other mother and son. “We’re just hanging out,” Poppy shares. “We have a toddler group and we go to the park…I’m just ‘Mom,’ which has been really fun for me.”

Most of the time! Jackson is “testing every boundary under the sun,” Poppy concedes before adding:

“Everything he is not supposed to do, he wants to do. I’m like, ‘Good for you, buck the system, rebel!’”

When it comes to reclaiming her pre-baby body, Poppy says there is no magic answer — just “really hard work.” Staying in shape is “not easy” for the 37-year-old former Without A Trace star, and life with a newborn wasn’t conducive to her weight-loss regimen.

“It’s harder because it’s easier to eat fast food with the baby because you never have your hands free, you’re always sort of grabbing,” she notes. “You have to force yourself to sit down and eat well.”

As for her advice to other new moms, Poppy says to remember that you’re not alone.

“It’s really hard, and everyone goes through it, I don’t think it’s easy for any woman. So if you feel like it’s impossible, we all felt that way.”

Jackson is Poppy’s son with partner Adam Kaufman.

Heidi Klum is ready to do her runway walk down the Emmy red carpet, and — about five weeks away from giving birth to her new daughter — she’s thrilled she won’t be sucking in her tummy.

“The great thing about being pregnant and going to these things is that I don’t have to suck my stomach in,” the supermodel andProject Runway host told PEOPLE at Los Angeles Confidential’s pre-Emmy party. “It’s fabulous! I can let it all out.”

Heidi, who’s nominated as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, revealed that she’ll be wearing a Marchesa gown designed especially for her by Georgina Chapman at the model’s request.

She said she hasn’t put too much thought into prepping around her pregnancy for the big day.

“It wasn’t really hard for me, but it was hard for the woman that designed a dress for me,” she laughed about going glam with the baby on board.

“She started about two or three months ago and that’s kind of difficult…It’s black because I figure, at eight-and-a-half months, black is better! I think it’s elegant and slimming.”

Heidi says she’s savoring every moment of her fourth pregnancy, which she and husband Seal have decided will be her last.

“Even though I’ve done it three times you do forget certain things,” she said. “She’s really, really active. Sometimes we lay in bed at night and my husband puts his hand on my stomach and she’s going crazy in there! He’s like ‘How do you sleep with all of this going on?’” she laughed. “But for me it’s the most calming thing because I know she’s okay. So as long as the baby is moving, I’m fine. “I was asked by Victoria’s Secret if it is possible, if I’m going to make it to their show,” she said. “You never know how you are afterwards, so you kind of have to play it by ear and see what happens. Not every little girl can say their father is an star basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as an Olympic gold medalist in the sport, but for Natalia Diamante, 6 ½, and Gianna Maria-Onore, 3, watching their dad Kobe Bryant shoot hoops has become routine.

That said, in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kobe reveals his daughters were thrown for a loop when he was named cover athlete for the NBA 2K10 video game. “My kids think it’s cool,” he says. “They’re like, ‘Daddy, that’s you!’”

While the mirrored gestures and facial expressions between Kobe and his digital version are undeniable, the father-of-two laughs that it is Natalia who is impressed by the technology — Gianna, “the biggest daddy’s girl in the world,” simply enjoys the extra opportunity to see her dad in action!

“My older daughter thinks that’s cool. But the little one looks at me and starts giggling and she’ll get pretty excited to see me on the screen or see my picture. She’s at a stage that’s pretty great.”

Video games for Kobe and his girls aren’t completely centered on the court. Noting that Natalia has shown interest in basketball — the doting dad calls her “hard core” — he admits she much prefers a princess party. “My daughter…likes to play princess games. I play with her, actually,” he shares.

“She plays the basketball games too, but mostly, she plays all the princess games.”

The slower-paced lifestyle on the West Coast took some getting used to for Jennifer Connelly and her two children Kai, 12, and Stellan, 6. Temporarily relocated from their home in Brooklyn, the family-of-four — which includes Jennifer’s husband actor Paul Bettany — eventually “settled in” and their new digs “became great,” she said during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “We found some things to become involved in,” she notes.

“For my kids it was swimming. My younger son couldn’t swim at all when we got here, and now he’s doing cannonballs into the pool, and flips. My older son has perfected his dive.”

Jennifer herself has taken up mixed martial arts, joking that “inside this sort of mild-mannered woman beats the heart of a ruthless ninja.” Her newfound toughness is lost on the boys, however. “My children are not scared of me that I’ve noticed so far, no,” she concedes. “I don’t think I’m particularly strict.”

Case in point? While Jennifer has a no-tolerance policy for “rudeness,” her stance on cursing is considerably more relaxed! “I won’t let my kids say, ‘You’re a f–king a–hole’ because that would be rude, that’s directed towards someone else,” she said during a humorous exchange with hostJimmy Kimmel, who then asked whether the boys would be allowed to say such a thing to a mirror. Answering in the negative, Jennifer explained, “Again, that’s rude. I wouldn’t want them to speak to themselves like that.”

“I make it very clear that this is [something that is] surprising to other people. Don’t go to school and say ‘Teacher, pass me a f–king pencil.’ You don’t say that. You say, ‘May I please have a pencil?’”

While some parents would undoubtedly be shocked by the language Kai and Stellan are permitted to use at home, Jennifer says that there are bigger battles to be waged when it comes to raising kids. She opines,

“Here’s the thing…I see parents letting their kids be — frankly — rude. Frankly, brats. And you think, ‘That kid is really a brat,’ and you say, ‘S–t, that kid is a brat,’ and they’re like, ‘Oh, you can’t curse in front of my child!’ People get very uptight about that sort of thing, but they don’t mind if their children are impolite.”

Jennifer added, “I believe in discipline, but other things that people are uptight about, I’m not uptight about.”

The chemistry may be palpable between David and Emily’s onscreen characters, but off camera, it’s David’s 7-year-old son, Jaden Rayne, with whom Emily has formed a tight bond.

“It sounds terrible,” jokes Emily, “but we play like stuntmen. Basically we pretend to beat each other up. It’s so much fun. We tackle each other and it’s fun. You can say we play football together!”

When Belgian Kim Clijsters defeatedCaroline Wozniacki last night to claim the women’s singles trophy at the U.S. Open, she became the first mom to emerge victorious at a Grand Slam event in 29 years.

The historic significance of the win was not lost on the 26-year-old former World No. 1, mom to 18-month-old Jada Ellie.

“I hope that I can inspire a lot of other women who are willing, or hoping, to [return to work] but maybe don’t know the way to start or are insecure about starting,” she told CNN after the match.

Kim was quick to point out, however, that she couldn’t have achieved her new-found success without the support of husbandBrian Lynch and others.

“I really believe anything is possible but it is a family affair. I also need help from family and people around me but it’s a great feeling to know that I can combine the sport that I love but also be a mum as well — it’s great.”

Having only recently emerged from retirement — the tournament in Flushing Meadows was just her third tournament after a two year hiatus — Kim admitted that the results exceeded her wildest expectations.

When she stepped away from the sport due to nagging injuries in 2007, she says that she considered the move permanent.

“[Coming back] wasn’t something I was planning on doing,” she said, “but obviously I have done well and obviously it is a great feeling to have.”

“During those two years off I maybe hit the ball two or three times and a few practice sessions with my friends – in fact it wasn’t even practice it was just fooling around. So to be in that position to decide that I wanted to do more than play exhibition matches was a big decision to have to be made, but right now it definitely feels like the best decision.”

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz on Her Son: He’s ‘the Best Part of Everything’ I Do

There’s no convincing Ashlee Simpson-Wentz that greener pastures await her later in life.

“It’s always, ‘Thirties is the ideal age.’ Then, ‘No, it’s 40s!’ I guess I don’t have an ideal age. I like to live in the moment,” she reveals in the October issue of Redbook.

While the 24-year-old singer/actress may not spend time ruminating on her age, she recognizes that life has been that much more special since giving birth to her first child last year.

“It’s kind of fun because I have a child and I’m at a place where I get to reboot and do something new,” she notes.

“Your 20s are a great time to explore and a great time to have a baby. [My son] is the best part of everything.”

Relishing her new role as a mother, Ashlee and her husband Pete Wentz have happily settled into a familiar routine since the birth of Bronx Mowgli, now 9 ½ months.

Fortunately for the couple, the transition into first-time parenthood was particularly smooth — a result, Ashlee says, of the nine months of pregnancy.

“The great thing about being pregnant is…it really does prepare you,” she explains. “Your body is changing and it’s an amazing time to feel that connection.”

According to the proud mama, feel that connection between mother and child she did! Counting herself among the “lucky” ones, Ashlee has only fond memories of both her pregnancy and delivery.

“I didn’t mind at all,” she admits. “I think being pregnant is so beautiful. I had the best pregnancy and I loved giving birth. It was just the most amazing thing, so surreal but so real.”

In fact, she cites the nine-month span as one of her peak periods of physical fitness.

“Being pregnant was the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life. Except for the cupcakes.”

The addition of baby Bronx has forced theMelrose Place star to see her family — including Pete — in an entirely new light. “[Pete] is a great dad. So sweet and loving,” Ashlee boasts.

And while she had little doubt he would step up to the plate as an excellent father, Ashlee can’t help but take in each moment the father-son duo spend together.

“When you see the dad with your son, it’s a whole new side of them. Just beautiful.”

Similar to her relationship with Pete, Ashlee’s bond with her own parents has equally blossomed since becoming a mother.

“We were always close, but as you get older, and when you go through something like a pregnancy, you think, ‘Oh, my parents are wonderful!’ she says.

“[My mom has] always been such a great mom, and now she’s a great grandmother! Bronx loves her.”

As for her older sister Jessica — who once considered Ashlee and her friends “just the little sisters” — becoming an aunt has set off her biological clock! “She’s always saying, ‘Oh, I want a baby!’” Ashlee reports.

Although she may have beaten her older sister to motherhood, Ashlee wholeheartedly believes the cards will eventually fall into place.

“Being a mom’s so empowering and incredible. I’m one of those people who believes that life brings things to you at a certain time for a certain reason, and if you just go with it, that’s where the best moments come from.”

Despite being intent on enjoying each moment in life as they present themselves, Ashlee can’t help but look forward to what her future will bring. “I’d like to be an awesome mom,” she shares.

“I’d like to have a big old family.”

Katherine Heigl: Adoption ‘Was Going to Have to Happen’

The question of whether or not to have children is one that most couples will tackle early on in their relationship, but for Katherine Heigland Josh Kelley “the talk” took on a decidedly non-traditional tone.

In an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing Friday, the 30-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star said that she first broached the topic of adoption with Josh before the couple were even engaged.

Noting that her sister Meg Heigl is Korean and that adopting from Korea was something she “always knew” she wanted to do, Katherine says that making her intentions “really clear” to her paramour was key. “Not everybody is down with that,” she notes. “Not everybody thinks that.”

“I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen.”

Happen, indeed! The couple will welcome their first child — a 9 ½-month-old daughter namedNaleigh — “real, real soon” after initiating her adoption “about a year ago,” according to Katherine. “The process is intense,” she notes, citing a 40-page questionnaire which covered everything from their upbringings to their respective parenting philosophies. “These are very valid questions,” Katherine points out. “You think about some of these things. You talk about some of these things but you don’t really get into the mix of it until you’re looking at these questions going, ‘Oh my God we better answer these right otherwise they won’t give us the baby.”

“It’s different, but it isn’t. It’s just as intense I’m sure to have a baby biologically because you’re going through the whole physical sort of thing of it.”

Naleigh — named “after my mother and sister Nancy, Leigh” — was able to be adopted on an expedited basis because she has special needs. “They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible,” Katherine says, explaining that the timing played a role in her decision to break the news. “I wanted to tell everybody so you don’t think I stole a Korean baby!” she laughs.

And although they haven’t met yet, mother and baby already have at least one thing in common — a birth sign! “She was actually born the day before me in November which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign,” Katherine notes. “I realized just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life.”

For actress Alicia Minshew, 35, motherhood was never part of the plan — until she met the right guy! “This is all his fault,” she jokes in the August 25 issue of Soap Opera Digest of husband Richie Herschenfeld. “He made me want babies!”

Recalling an earlier interview in which Alicia — now in the third trimester of her first pregnancy, a baby girl due in November — said she “wouldn’t want to have kids” if it weren’t with Richie, the All My Children star says that she “still stand[s] by that.”

“Eight years ago, it would have been a different story, but now I can’t wait to be a mama.”

The couple kept the pregnancy a secret from Alicia’s co-workers until she was five months along. “Some people said that they had suspected it,” she notes. “I mean, I’ve gained 10 pounds already and on a little body…If you see me every day in tight things, every now and again you see a little something and you’re like, ‘Hmmmm. What is that?’” Still, others were caught completely off-guard by the news. “It was really cool because I got such a mix of reactions from people, from total shock to people going, ‘Yeah, we thought so,’” she says.

Co-stars Thorsten Kaye and Cameron Mathison “knew very early on,” Alicia shares. “They were so great and so supportive and they totally kept my secret from day one, those two, and I love them for that.” AMC icon Susan Lucci was also one of the first to know. “She jumped out of her chair like a little girl and she must have hugged me 10 times,” Alicia recalls. “It was a really special moment, exactly why I had wanted to tell her before I told other people.”

Concealing her baby joy on set was particularly tough given the subject matter for her character Kendall Hart; For two weeks, Alicia kept a crib-side vigil over her fictional baby Ian, who was battling a heart problem. “I was in the first trimester and I was so nauseous and so uncomfortable and nobody knew,” she says. “It’s my first time, newly pregnant, and I was so afraid that going through this emotional stuff was going to hurt my baby, which is why I ultimately felt like I had to tell somebody, and I told Cameron.” Instantly, the actor, a father of two, quelled Alicia’s fears.

“He was like, ‘No no, no. Babies are resilient.’ He calmed me down. He said ‘You’re going to be fine, just take care of yourself.’ But it was a challenge man!”

With age has come balance for Trisha Yearwood. Although her 20s and 30s were devoted almost exclusively to her career, the success the 44-year-old songstress gained as a result has enabled her to devote more time and attention to her three step-daughters with husbandGarth Brooks.

“I now have the luxury of focusing on making every soccer game and being a bonus mom,” she notes in a new interview with Good Housekeeping. Crediting Jada Pinkett-Smith for teaching her the term, Trisha recalls,

“We were at an event together and she heard me say that I hate the word ’stepmother’ because it conjures up Cinderella and all these bad things. She came up to me and said, ‘Bonus mom. That’s what you are.’ I love that. I also sometimes say that I’m the stunt mom.”

Life as a bonus mom is easy for Trisha, who raves that “the bonus children are great.” Of Taylor Mayne Pearl, 17, August Anna, 15, and Allie Colleen, 13, Trisha raves,

“These girls are smart and funny, and they’ve been really sweet to me. Garth and [ex-wife] Sandy have made it easy for me to become a part of the family. Garth gave me good advice: He said just be who you are, and you’ll earn it day by day with the girls. And I believe that I have.”

Family life for the two country superstars is surprisingly simple. “We’re more likely to pop popcorn and watch a movie at home than go out,” Trisha notes. “The girls want to go do things with their friends, but they’re also still at an age where they like spending time with us.”

“There are two gals I’ve especially bonded with in Oklahoma; our kids play soccer together and like each other. So they’ll come over with their husbands and we’ll grill out, and the kids will watch Twilight for the 10,000th time. It’s fun!”

Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel Welcome Son Walker

He’s here! Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs welcomed a son, Walker Diggs, on Wednesday, September 2nd, the couple’s reps confirm to PEOPLE. The baby’s middle name is reportedly Nathaniel.

“Mother, father and son are all doing well,” the reps said in a statement.

The Broadway belters announced the pregnancy in March, later sharingthat the baby was a boy due September 6th. Although they had a few names in mind, Taye said they were waiting to make a final decision.

“We have a couple [names] in the running,” the Private Practice star explained. “But part of us wants to see what he hits us with when we see him. We’ll see what he looks like.”

Walker is the first child for the couple, who are both 38 and met on the 1996 Broadway production of Rent. They wed in January 2003.

Her daughter Margaret ‘Maggie’ Heather, 2, however, prefers cooking — and cleaning! — to costumes. “She has a little mop and a little broom. Erykah Badu on Homeschooling, Homebirths and More

The importance of a quality education can never be underscored, and that’s why Erykah Badu says she felt compelled to homeschool sonSeven Sirius, 11 ½, through kindergarten and first-grade. “I wanted to give [him] special attention academically, to give him an advantage,” the 38-year-old songstress explains in a new interview with Babble.

Mission accomplished! Erykah says that through their collective effort, Seven “learned how to solve problems in a nontraditional way” which has served him well now that he is enrolled in a traditional school. “He developed an edge in his schoolwork,” Erykah notes. “He enjoys challenges…He pushes himself…He does his homework voluntarily.”

“He does not want to miss school or be late or be untidy or not have his things in order because that was a big part of how he was brought up. I don’t have any idea what Seven is going to choose to do, but he knows how to be disciplined and how to learn, and because of that he’s one of the top students in his school, and one of the top students in Dallas.”

Citing “parents not participating in kids’ schooling,” as her biggest parental pet peeve, Erykah adds,

“I don’t think it matters what school you go to, but I think it’s important for parents to be involved. And to know that when school stops, learning continues, and to continue teaching at home.”

The food which fuels that learning is also a big concern for Erykah, who adheres to a vegan lifestyle both for herself as well as for her three children, which include daughters Puma Sabti, 5, and Mars Merkaba, 7 months. “When Seven was born I was a vegetarian and his father [Andre 3000]was too, so it was a natural progression for him in life to eat the things we eat,” she explains. “Puma is the same way. It’s just what’s in the house.”

The kids are also being taught to read the ingredients before they consume, though Erykah is quick to point out that she did not “in any way force them to have the same lifestyle,” adding, “I think they should know the benefits of having a healthy body.”

“If they were to choose to do anything else after they become high school students, I would have full confidence that they know how to take care of their bodies and themselves. By making sure they use preventive medicine — getting plenty of water, plenty of chlorophyll and vegetable juices and good, healthy rest and activity — I know they’ll be able to take good care of themselves.”

The diet is sometimes a challenge, however. When asked about whether her children ever request hot dogs, Erykah replies, “they joke about it,” and concedes, “I’m sure as children they feel left out sometimes.” When those situations seem likely to arise, Erykah says she always has an alternative food to offer. “We make sure we keep a school menu on hand, and we prepare the same foods the kids at school are eating but in a healthier manner,” she notes. “That’s what this lifestyle provides us with.”

“I work really hard the way I do so I can give them all the things they need without them feeling like they’re being punished. So they can have a good understanding of what it means to be healthy.”

The earlier, it would seem, the better! Mars is currently on a macrobiotic diet, according to Erykah. “It’s different from being a vegan,” she explains, “in that it goes a little bit deeper into the yin and yang of what a human being needs.” She was first turned onto macrobiotics after learning that Seven has food allergies to some nuts, legumes, melons and apples.

“I always wanted to do it, but I didn’t really understand the dynamics. Then, the more children you have, the more you get into health and holistic living. Which goes so far beyond being a vegan.”

In the interview, Erykah also explains her decision to birth all three babies at home. “That’s the natural environment, the old way,” she notes. “There’s not a lot of fuss and moving around.” With Seven, Erykah says she had a “very wise doula” and midwives who gave her the “freedom” to continue living her life while she labored. “I didn’t have to uproot myself,” she explains. “Maybe to some it’s scary, but preparation is the whole key.”

“When a mother has found out she’s going to have a baby, her whole life — her diet, her mood, her energy — should kind of prepare her. After she prepares herself, fear is never a part of it. I expected success and health, so I made sure I surrounded myself with it. By the time I had my third baby, childbirth seemed a very natural part of life to me.”

Tweeting between contractions? Not so much. Erykah reveals it was a dare which led her to provide updates throughout her labor with Mars. “Questlove of The Roots said, ‘I bet you won’t Twitter while you’re in labor,’” she recalls. “I said, ‘I bet I will.’ So I did.” Standing close by were Seven and Puma, who played “a very big part” in helping their mom deliver their newest sibling. “It was very sacred,” Erykah says. “They helped me welcome this baby into the world.” The Twitter community has done their part as well, Erykah jokes.

“They ask about her every month. [At the time of the interview,] she just turned six months, and I got a lot of ‘Happy six months.’ She’s the first Twitter baby, and she’s breastfed on Twitty milk.”

Seven is Erykah’s son with Andre 3000 of Outkast; Puma is her daughter with rapper The D.O.C;Mars is her daughter with rapper/producer Jay Electronica.

David Arquette, dad to 5-year-old Coco Riley with wife Courteney Cox-Arquette, has heard these sobering statistics and was motivated to help as a result.

A volunteer with Feeding America, the 37-year-old actor has pitched in at Los Angeles-area foodbanks two times a week for the last year.

“It’s amazing when you see the people face-to-face,” he tells PEOPLE. “You see a kid in a stroller, and you give his family a bag of food, and the kid just reaches in and pulls out a piece of bread and just starts eating it. You can tell right away that this is a serious situation.”

For our smallest Americans, especially. With proper nutrition so vital to their growth and development, it is particularly distressing that Feeding America currently serves more than 9 million children, 2 million of which are under the age of five.

“The problem of childhood hunger is not simply a moral issue,” Feeding America notes. “Scientific evidence suggests that hungry children are less likely to become productive citizens. A child who is unequipped to learn because of hunger and poverty is more likely to be poor as an adult. As such, the existence of childhood hunger in the United States threatens future American prosperity.”

VTech 3-in-1 Smart Wheels: Rocks… and Then Rolls

I’m all for toys that morph into new play experiences as a child grows – and that’s one of the reasons we’re loving the VTech 3-in-1 Smart Wheels ($40).

It goes from a tummy time entertainer for infants (with flashing lights and noises) to a rocker for crawlers and a riding toy for toddlers.

The big blue steering wheel in the dashboard is a favorite with my son and his play-date pals, who smack the little red horn ferociously, giggling when it beeps.

With the flip of a bright orange lever, he bounces to the ABC song and then the ABCs clearly spoken in ascending order. There is counting and numbers and modes that switch depending upon which buttons he pushes. The bright music and lights really entertain him and the driving mode – with speeding up and slowing down sounds – is a big hit.

Even his 4-year-old sister takes a spin or two around the house, revving the engine and singing her ABCs – until she’s stopped by an angry toddler demanding she pull over so he can have his toy back. It is really fun that this toy can successfully combine driving with the alphabet, counting and numbers so that a child is active, moving around, getting exercise and play time and having a little lesson on the go at the same time.

We put it together quickly and there wasn’t any down time for figuring it out – the kids just descended on it right away. I like that it is lightweight and I can easily move it around the house and into the yard, but that it is still sturdy enough not to tip over.

It's an interesting illusion that Madonna, John Wayne Bobbitt and Susan Boyle can be mentioned together in the same sentence. But, I have found a way. The mechanics of celebrity is the issue that can bring just about any three celebrity names together in the same sentence.

There are several ways in this world to become a celebrity. Not everyone who has graced a tabloid has followed the same set of rules. In fact, rules are pretty much out of the question. Madonna, John Wayne Bobbitt and Susan Boyle are each great examples of the fact that rules are indeed out of the question.

I could have mentioned any number of celebrities here. But, I have chosen these three because of the extreme natures of their back stories. The way they each came to celebrity status are so different in nature that they are the perfect examples for my expanse.

Everyone knows who Madonna is and what she's up to these days. She has been a mogul for years and by most probable standards will stay on that level of stardom for the rest of her life. She will be remembered long after her passing much like that of Jerry, Kurt and Elvis.

You might argue that Madonna could never be on the same level with the likes of Jerry Garcia and Elvis Presley. But if you think about what I'm saying you'll be able to see that despite the arguable differences, Madonna will be remembered. That in itself is comparable to any great you stack up against her.

Years ago, a rising star out of New York, she had what it takes to make it in the music industry. She had talent and ideas. She was a trend setter, not only in music but also in fashion. She is a beautiful woman. But, there are so many beautiful women who know music and have great ideas who don't make it. How is it that Madonna made it through?

She used sex appeal. She did outrageous things in the public eye that still are used as icons today. Her outrageous bra is just one example of the way comedians and impersonators like to portray her. You can have blond hair and you can talk with a Brooklyn accent. But if you put your hair back in a pony tail and wear cones over your breasts, you're suddenly recognized as doing Madonna. And Madonna has been enjoying that for years. Millions of teenagers used to dress like her back in the 80s. She's big because she makes herself big. She brings it large and that's one way to celebrity.

John Wayne Bobbitt is a celebrity for another reason. You might argue that John Wayne Bobbitt is no celebrity. But, mention his name in a room and mostly everyone will know the story. It was outrageous. It caught national attention. I'm not saying that you should have your wife cut your male member and throw it out along the highway. But, that kind of outrageous behavior is what puts people on the map.

Celebrities like Steve-O and Paris Hilton eat into that every day. Think about it! What is Steve-O's talent? Is he a member of a band? Is he an actor in the movies? No, he is a Jackass. Part of the crew who lights bottle rockets out of their butts and sick alligators on their moms. Bam Margera once cut the top out of a Lamborghini just to make Billy Idol happy. That's a jackass.

Speaking of which, who is Paris Hilton by the way? Is she a singer? Is she an actress? Well, it can be argued that she is both of those as well as having a few other significant celebrity titles. But, her celebrity came with being an heiress to the Hilton hotel chain. She has rubbed elbows with celebrities all her life and found herself in the spotlight along with them regardless of the fact that she wasn't actually a talent among them. So, finding yourself in the spotlight regardless of any talent you may or may not have is another way to break through the glass ceiling known as celebrity.

That brings us to Susan Boyle. She is the mark of a different kind of celebrity. She was given a moment and she completely knocked us on our butts. Everyone in the audience of Britain's Got Talentwas chuckling. The judges were skeptical. But, she opened up and out of her mouth came her beautiful rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. Simon Cowell's expression was priceless and when you see Simon Cowell genuinely surprised, you know you have really nailed something right.

Rumors are flying. One exciting rumor is that there might be a movie deal and Catherine Zeta Jones wants to play her role. I saw a pole taken on a top celebrity news broadcast that asked the audience whether Susan Boyle had surpassed Brangelina in celebrity status. It wasn't a majority, but a significant number of voters thought that she had indeed surpassed the power team couple.

Now, what is that? That's fifteen minutes of fame for all the right reasons. She has a talent and was able to catch the world's attention when she was given her moment. Eminem talks about choking at a moment like that in his song "Lose Yourself." Susan Boyle lost herself. She owned it and she didn't let it go.

Google Trends, as many of you will know, is a simple tool for gauging, hour by hour, what is hotly being searched for on the Internet. It's an incredibly versatile and innovative tool, and it has proved extremely handy for news agencies, Internet users, and Webmasters alike. It tends to focus on news blogs, which is excellent for the smaller Webmaster who is trying to increase traffic to his blog.

I suppose you could class me as one of those smaller Webmasters, and to be sure, I always keep one eye fixed on Google trends. I have learned from studying this mysteriously excellent service that most Internet users are only interested in the three things:

1. Nudity
2. Crime and serial killers
3. Celebrities, celebrities, and more celebrities

I am sure that I am not the only Webmaster to have picked up the surprising obsession with celebrity culture which grips the average Internet user. The traffic flows in Google alone for this niche topic are beyond belief, with many millions perhaps searching for one hot celebrity name every hour, traffic which far outstrips seemingly more weighty and important topics in the news. In short, the mass appeal of celebrity and celebrity news scandals is quite breathtaking and regularly shows itself on a massive scale.

There has been a recent trend for Webmasters and blog writers to follow Google trends with their blog posts, and I must admit that I am among these Webmasters. Let me give you an example of how effective it can be. At 1:00 PM, it was announced on Google trends that Rachel Ray, the popular TV cook, had done a risque photo shoot for FHM. I was lucky enough to find out about this at 1:05 PM. I wrote a quick five-minute blog post about this topic, not thinking it would come to much. Boy was I wrong. I checked back on my websites stat counter later that day and found that 60,000 unique visitors had been sent to my blog by Google.

How is such a massive jump in traffic possible, without a huge amount of effort in regard to search engine optimisation? It just looks as though it's a simple question of competition. When the latest celebrity scandal breaks and is reported on trends, for the next few minutes, there is extremely scant competition on Google for the comparatively unique set of keywords which represent said scandal. It's a formula which continuously works for me and other Webmasters, some of whom even admit on their blog that they are just following Google trends. Of course to limit oneself to Google trends on a blog would be a restrictive move that I would not recommend.

Google trends has allowed me to write about interesting celebrity news stories, knowing that they won't be immediately overlooked and forgotten. There is now a chance for any Webmaster to get significant traffic, fast and free, from this innovative and ingenious Google tool.

It’s a girl for 311 singer/guitarist Nick Hexum and wife Nikki! The couple welcomed daughter Echo Hexum at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday, August 29th following a homebirth, according to a Tweet from Nick. Of the experience he writes,

“Words cannot describe how amazing it was. Time to go to bed.”

Just four hours later Nick, 39, followed up with “thanks, you guys…my heart sings today,” and on Tuesday said, “Day three of parenting. This is the greatest thing ever.”

Echo is the first child for the couple, who were married last New Year’s Eve.

Singer Lisa Loeb and her husband Roey Hershkovitz are going to be parents, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“They’re excited to welcome their first child this winter,” says Lisa’s manager Janet Billig Rich.

Lisa, 41, and Roey, 31, a music production supervisor for The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, met in 2006 at a business meeting and were engaged last November. Their winter wonderland-themed January wedding, featuring all-white centerpieces and tiny deer figurines, was held at Manhattan restaurant Brasserie 8 ½. The singer, who wore a pink wedding gown by Amsale Blue Label as she exchanged vows with Roey in front of 275 guests, told PEOPLE the evening was “the most fun night ever.”

It's amazing how fast most celebrities lose weight after having a baby and more than one non-celebrity mama has felt pangs of jealousy over Heidi Klum's seemingly perfect body after 3 kids. Well, let me tell you a secret. They have help.

Yup, celebrities lose all that weight after pregnancy because they don't have to do it alone! Most of them have nannies to help with the baby so they can get their beauty sleep and it's been proven that lack of sleep can actually keep you fat. On top of that, they have the cash to hire private chefs or simply order from the best, healthy takeout places. And on top of that, they have personal trainers at their beck and call. Definitely the way to go! But the vast majority of normal moms just don't have that luxury.

So how can you, a regular mother without wads of cash to spend on a personal chef, manage to lose weight after pregnancy? Well, you'll need to work a little harder at it, but it is possible.

Exercise

So you can't hire a personal trainer, but you can team up with a friend to get fit again. Having someone else to walk or work out with can motivate you to actually show up instead of staying in bed with your little one. If you don't want to hit the gym and leave your baby with someone else, many gyms now have classes that allow moms to bring their babies with them. Or you could take a stroller fitness class. And, if all that fails, there is still the option of just going for a brisk walk with your baby in a stroller or front carrier.

Diet

Meal planning is key to staying on track with your diet after having a baby. You're going to be tired and the whole "mommy brain" thing isn't a myth. That means having everything organized is the best way to go. You'll need to plan out your meals, organize shopping lists and do the shopping on a weekly basis to make sure you are stocked up on all the necessities, including fresh fruit and veggies for your diet.

There are meal planning services that can really help simplify this process, or you can do it yourself. It might be a good idea to come up with simple meals before you actually have the baby so you won't have an excuse to put off healthy eating afterward.

You may not have access to all the luxuries the celebrities do, but you can still get great results when losing weight after pregnancy.

There’s a very long list of celebrity bikers. Harley Davidson motorcycles have been the chosen toy of both the rich and the famous for a very long time. This phenomenon took place almost immediately after the bike was manufactured. I’ve often wondered what the Bad Boys did to set themselves apart in pre-Harley days.
I wonder if people who rode motorcycles were even considered to be rebellious or tough before bikers were featured as such in the motion pictures of the fifties. I know that James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause" and Marlon Brando in “The Wild One" were considered to be THE original motorcycle movies of the day. I believe that the bikers in the latter movie that terrorized the locals while Johnny (Marlon Brando) romanced the local law’s daughter, have made a mold and formed negative opinions that many are loathe to put aside decades later.

After awhile the coast seemed to be clear for peaceful law abiding citizens to hop on their bikes and ride without being social pariahs. Then enter Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda of Easy Rider fame. Who can forget all those really bad clothes, dirty looking hair and what about the hand gestures we had not seen on the silver screen before?

Parents lived in fear of their babies growing up to be motorcycle riding ruffians and members of Hell’s Angels. The mention of the name of this infamous club brought fear to the hearts of many. The existence of this group didn’t do much to promote a positive Harley or biker image in those days. We’re happy to say that things have gotten better in that situation.

Owners of the Harleys of modern day don’t necessarily fit into the rough and ready persona that has preceded them. While Harleys seem to have become a middle class working man’s toy, there are many riders among the wealthy and even the SUPER wealthy. I suppose celebrities, moguls and millionaires need stress relief just like the blue collar worker that punches a clock, maybe even more so.

Malcom Forbes, the founder of the famous financial publication of the same name, didn’t become a motorcycle fan until he reached his late forties. He seemed to enjoy collecting motorcycles about as much as he seemed to enjoy making money! Malcom seemed to open the doors for businessmen going through their mid-life crisis to go out and buy a Hog and hit the roads.

Jay Leno, is an avid collector of Harley Davidson’s and vintage automobiles. Jay was a mechanic for awhile in his younger days and still likes to tinker on engines. That’s one thing you don’t see many celebrity riders doing! Most movie stars are just along for the ride, so to speak.

There are many celebrities that enjoy riding motorcycles and many still prefer Harley Davidsons. Even President Clinton appeared riding a Harley during his Presidential campaign! And let us not forget the ladies. The list of well known biker babes would include Tina Turner, Liz Taylor and Lauren Hutton. Many women are becoming independent motorcyclists. Whoever you may be, famous or ordinary in every sense of the word, once the Harley bug bites, it’s jump on and ride with the pack or be left behind!

Charlotte Church ‘Definitely’ Wants More Kids

Having two children under two has done nothing to deter Charlotte Church from herstated goal of having a large family.

Speaking shortly after the Saturday christening of her son Dexter Lloyd, 7 ½ months, the 23-year-old songstress — also mom to Ruby Megan, turning 2 this month — said that she and partner Gavin Hensonmay have revised their timeline, but not their intentions!

“We definitely want more kids,” she revealed to Hello! magazine, “but we think we’ll wait a few years now until Ruby goes to school.”

Weighing heavily on her mind is the discomfort of pregnancy. “I suffer badly with aching hips when I’m pregnant and last time, with Dexter, it was so painful,” Charlotte lamented.

Her own weight, on the other hand, is not a concern.”I couldn’t care,” Charlotte proclaims.

“When I get to the stage where I personally think, ‘Crikey, I’ve got to do something about this,’ I’ll eat less or eat healthier but I won’t be spurred on by what’s written in the media.”

Noting that her wardrobe offers a “ridiculous” range of sizes, Charlotte does admit that she’s pleased with where she’s at. “It is kind of nice to have my body back,” she says.

As for their second child, the couple say that they’ve been blessed with an easy-going baby. “As long as he’s getting attention and someone’s holding him or playing with him, he’s happy,” Gavin beams, prompting Charlotte to add,

“Especially women — he’s a terrible flirt.”

With so many celebrities having babies these days, it is high time we acknowledged the new Hollywood royalty. In particular, there has been a firestorm of controversy surrounding the role of Scientology in the birth of their first child. Tom is a devout adherent of the Scientology movement, and it has been said that they have some controversial ideas about things. We are unsure what constitutes a Scientologically sound childbirth, but we wish Tom and Katie the best of luck!

What is it with celebrities and what they name their babies?

Decades ago we had Frank Zappa, who named two of his kids Moon Unit and Dweezil – but we sort of expect that from a rock star, don’t we? To top it off, he named his other two kids Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva – so at least in that family they all have rather unique names.

I admit that I thought it was pretty cool when Demi and Bruce named one of their daughters Scout, in honor of the young heroine from “To Kill A Mockingbird” – but then they went and named the other two Rumor and Tallulah Belle. Not sure why they did that – thankfully they seem like nice, normal kids.

No need to discuss what Michael Jackson named his children – that’s the least of his, or their worries, frankly.

I had a cat named Coco when I was a child, and now David and Courtney Cox Arquette have a daughter named Coco. And how about Apple for a name? Seriously, why would an Academy Award winning actress name her child Apple? Will Gwenyth name the one she’s expecting this spring Banana? Or maybe go with something from the vegetable family?

Don’t get me wrong – I think trying to find a unique name for your child is wonderful. There are more than enough Bob’s in the world right now (my husband being one of them). But aren’t there better ways of choosing a name for your baby than drawing a name out of a hat or trying to recall what you ate just before conception? And isn’t life already going to be hard enough for these celebrity kids without being saddled with bizarre names?

Not all celebrities have given their offspring strange names. Thankfully, Britney Spears named her son Sean, and Kate Winslet chose the simple, but strong, Joe for her son. And there are lots of celebrity sons named Jack and Henry out there, along with a few Grace and Samantha’s, so not all is lost.

But what I wonder is if celebrities know there are “Baby Naming” books out there to help them. Years ago we got one of those books when we considered starting a family. With the last name Ryder, of course we played around with some fun names – like Ezekiel Zechariah – E.Z. Ryder. Or Paperback. Maybe Horseback. But would we have actually done that? Of course not. Well, at least not Paperback or Horseback. Then, when we didn’t have children, we used the book to name our pets. We may be the only people in the world with a Siamese Cat named Dugan – and actually know what it means! And we used the book to offer “helpful” suggestions to family and friends.

These books are great – not only do you get thousands of possible names, you also get their heritage and meaning. So if any of you know Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, I have a suggestion for the perfect baby shower gift for them – a baby naming book. Or who knows what those two might come up with for a name. I shudder even thinking about it.

A New Breed of Celebrity Moms by Jan Bay

In every magazine, there is at least one story filled with gossip about new celebrity moms and their babies. You know the ones that I mean; the ones that we are a little embarrassed if we're caught reading at the checkout counter at the grocery store. Celebrity baby tracking is nothing new. The public has been peeking inside their world of movie star mothers for quite some time. And I must include myself in their numbers.

One interesting item of note is that the latest idols of the silver screen are nothing like the stars of my parent's day. Many have noted that they are becoming less glamorous and more like average everyday people. Even though they have access to haute couture clothing we see them in photographs wearing jeans, athletic shoes and more importantly they are accompanied by their families which gives evidence that today's celebrity moms are actually enjoying hanging out with the kids, decorating the baby's nursery and doing all the ordinary stuff that every mother does for their newborn.

Remember back in the day when the yearly, televised Christmas Special might be the only time that celebrities and their babies shared the same room? Either photographers gave them more privacy and only snapped pictures at scheduled photo shoots or the little ones knew they were supposed to be seen and not heard.

Whatever the reason, this style of celebrity parenting has fallen by the wayside and has been replaced with hands-on parenting by loving mothers and fathers which is a far cry from the movie star moms that are depicted in those nasty, best selling tell all books. I recently saw Nicole Kidman tear up at the mention of little Sunday Rose on a national talk show. And it's nothing to see Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes out and about with Suri dressed in Baby Gap on a daily basis without so much as a glimpse of a nanny or assistant in tow.

I, for one, am more than willing to sacrifice a certain amount of star factor and glamour for the privilege of witnessing the enjoyment these celebrity moms and dads get out of the day to day life they share with their babies. It's good to see that the alleged shortcomings of the likes of Betty Davis and Joan Crawford are not being repeated by the new breed of celebrity mothers. Here's hoping that none of these celebrity babies ever feel the need to confess that they have suffered the nightmare brand of upbringing that some film stars of yesteryear were reported to have inflicted on their kids.

In the new age of celebrity obsession, it seems pregnancy is now the latest "must have" accessory for many Hollywood stars with and without little ones already at home.

Pregnancy and children used to be considered career suicide in Hollywood. But now we have the pop culture coined "baby bump", "bump watch", and other cutesy-trendy phrases to describe the public's obsession with who's pregnant, who's planning on getting pregnant, and who looks suspiciously pregnant in the world of celebrity gossip.

One would almost be able to say that celebrity pregnancy watches have surpassed divorce and breakup watches - almost, but not quite. The world loves other people's "dirty laundry", and a baby is still considered a generally happy occasion for anyone, so I suppose this new obsession is better than the lust for bad news about stars and their fortunes, right?

A growing trend right now is also single motherhood, and the declaration of independence many young actresses, such as Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz, have recently made about the virtues of single motherhood.

More and more actresses are saying no to marriage, and yes to motherhood, which is probably a sign of a growing sense of feminism and independence in Hollywood, and around the world.

Now that women are in the working force, and many times more than capable of financially supporting themselves and a child, single motherhood has become more acceptable. In Hollywood, single motherhood has become somewhat of a status symbol. Take Angelina Jolie for example.

When before do you remember a single mother being looked upon with respect and envy? Angelina and other high fashion, beautiful, big name actresses who've said no to relationships and yes to mommyhood only increase the public's hunger for more "celebrity baby news".

She and other sexy moms like Diane Lane, Shania Twain and other svelte celebs who've given birth have also given new meaning to the term "hot mama".

These women have helped us "regular" women realize that we don't all have to stop having fun, looking sexy, and dressing young once we've had children. They've made motherhood seem sexy, almost like a new beginning or rejuvenation of the spirit and outlook on life.

Some may argue that celebrity mom glorification makes real life mom's feel inferior and paints an unrealistic picture of ease and happiness in motherhood, what with all the extra help celebs can afford to hire.

I disagree. I think it's taught women that we can pursue a career, and have a family. We can have it all, we just have to work for it. And who is going to disagree with that?

At the moment, the perfect day would involve a sleep-in! I’m a night owl who loves to stay up late – but then I find myself with a 6am start time and I’ll end up having only two hours sleep. That’s why my perfect day would involve sleeping in and then hanging out by the pool with my mom.

What’s the best way to chill out?
I love being at home – especially when I’m out by the pool. We have a waterfall in our backyard and it’s beautiful. It’s lovely to sit out there alone. In fact, I like anywhere I can just be alone. I love being alone!Do you enjoy the sunshine? Yeah! There’s nothing better than a day off in the sunshine. It would be lovely to just sit back and relax in the sun…

What else do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to ride my bike and I love reading. I also like to watch movies and stay up late. Staying up late is great because I find it really relaxing. It’s the only time when everyone else is asleep, so I can have some alone time.

Wait a minute… You haven’t mentioned shopping yet! Don’t you enjoy shopping?
I love, love, love to go shopping! What girl doesn’t?! I don’t get to shop as much as I like to, but when I can, I’ll go for it. Where do you keep all your new clothes? I have a great walk-in closet at home. My closet is the best closet you’ve ever seen! It’s huge and it’s filled to the brim because I love clothes.

What else are you obsessed with?
I am completely obsessed with Twitter. I love it. I’m always writing on it and chatting with fans. It’s fun. I like Tweeting.

What about travel? Would you like to take a trip around the world?
Definitely! There are loads of things I want to do. I’d love to take off and go backpacking around Europe, but I think it might be a little difficult.

Did you enjoy traveling to Nashville to shoot the Hannah Montana movie?
That was awesome! I loved going home to Nashville because it’s a wonderful place and it’s where I grew up. I really enjoyed the tranquility of everything there. I loved the peace and the quiet. It was amazing.

So how would you spend your ideal day in Nashville?
Ooh, I like this question! I’d just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. You know what? I really wish I had more time to spend in Nashville. Filming the movie was the longest I had been back since I left, but I am hoping to move back there at some point.

Does this mean you’re leaving Hollywood?
Not yet! But filming the Hannah Montana movie really made me miss home. When audiences walk away from the film, I hope they feel like they’ve been to my home. I hope they feel like they understand Nashville because Nashville is everything to me. Nashville is who I am.

Let’s get back to your favorite obsessions… What was the last book you read?
I’ve just finished reading a book called Catcher In The Rye. It’s a really great book. If you haven’t heard of it, check it out. It’s by JD Salinger and it’s a bit of a classic.

What makes it such a good book?
It’s a really good story. Plus, when I was reading the book, I thought that I was a little similar to the main character. He over-thinks everything and I’m like that.

What do you over-think?
In the book, this guy is obsessed with a girl called Jane – and I can be exactly like that when it comes to boys. I’ll be thinking, ‘I really hope they like me.’ And I’ll stress and stress and stress about it.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Hopefully I’ll still be working in ten years. I love doing films, so I hope I’m doing them for years to come – but I also hope that I’ve become a bit more settled.

What do you mean by that?
Well, my life is so crazy at the moment, so it would be great to have a more normal life in ten years. I’d love to be doing movies on and off – but I hope I get the chance to spend a lot of time with my family, too. That would be very cool indeed.

Was it difficult to make such a roguish character so charming?
Why thank you very much. It wasn’t my goal to make him that likeable, so I failed you! Again. Yeah, it was fun. I liked that there is no real villains or heroes in this movie. I fthey eel like it’s a lot like life, you know, people have complexities and have their heroic moments and their villainous moments. I will say that with this cast I've never felt so old. It was a routine of humility. Obviously this guy is having a pretty inappropriate relationship with this very, very young girl, but the spirit on the set, it really felt like where I was eight or nine years ago. It was like a pretty cool place to be each day.

Have you ever had what seemed like a dead-end job?
Yeah, I worked at a restaurant in Vancouver. I shouldn’t even name it! It was a restaurant in Kitsilano and I was a busboy there, but no one ever really ate there. I think I was actually working for Peruvian drug lords. This was my thought. I had like this abusive boss who had a fuse that was absolutely minimal at best, and I worked there all day. And then at night, I would work at a grocery store the graveyard shift, you know, throwing fresh fruit at my co-workers.

And this was when you were a struggling actor?
Yeah. I mean I was a struggling actor, as much as I could be in Vancouver. I mean you can only play so many ex-Falcon Crest stars’ sons in so many ‘movies of the week’ before you just you burn out! So yeah, I was kind of doing that to supplement my happiness, believe it or not.

What did you make of Twilight star Kristen Stewart, your co-star in Adventureland?
Kristen is great. She’s really great. Obviously life has changed for her in a pretty drastic way since then. So it was kind of cool to see her talking about this thing called Twilight she might do.

Adventureland is a very personal film for Greg Mottola and he’s based a lot of the characters on people that he knew. Did he say that you were based on a particular person?
I don’t think so. You know, that probably would have been a smart thing for me to ask him! But I don’t know. He and I had about four different meetings before I jumped in there, because I didn’t have a lot of trust — I didn’t really know Greg that well other than seeing SuperBad, and I just thought, ‘Is this guy going to just be your stereotypical douche or is he going to be a guy that’s actually got some depth to him or another side to him?

And then, when you hang out with Greg a little bit longer, you realize that all these specifics are in the script for a reason, because this is a guy that actually lived this life and that’s what I love about Adventureland. He’s really created a world you know, where there are such specific instances happening and specific characters that you think ‘Wow, there is no way that someone just made this up; this has actually happened’. It was a great experience. Greg has poured his heart and soul into it in every way.

What are the everyday dramas you deal with in dead-end, “unglamorous” jobs?
Oh yeah. I mean you know, you’d be hard pressed to find more drama in Days of Our Lives than you do in an average job each day. I mean co-workers can create a jocular sort of lifestyle that’s going on. Everybody is kind of trying to get ahead or kind of create this job and mould it to their own needs at the same time. My job in the restaurant sucked, but at the same time, the thing that kept me going to work each day and really kind of got me through it were my co-workers. The same people that you have fights with and disagreements with are the same people that you rely on and you count on to stay sane in these crazy jobs.

You mentioned the specifics in the script, what specifics about your character helped you the most?
For me it was just his unabashed fantasy life that my character was leading, this idea that he’s so much more than he actually is. He has this inability to accept where he is in his life, and that’s something that I feel really heartbreaking. I found it touching in a strange way, that this guy is so disappointed with how things turned out for himself that he’s chosen to really try to be the biggest fish in the smallest pond he could possibly find. And that’s what that represented for him. To me, that was reason enough to jump in there and do it.

Is it fun being on an amusement park to make a film, or was it annoying?
It’s annoying because there is all these sound issues. There are a lot of background artists, too. They're at an amusement park, but they're being told to be quiet and stay in one section. So I think that naturally it got a little antsy and some takes get ruined because people are yelling and screaming and talking and all sorts of stuff.

What are the different considerations that go into shooting an ensemble-supporting role, like in Adventureland versus a lead role?
I don’t know. I don’t usually think of it like that. I've always loved character work. When I was younger, I considered myself a character actor, but I didn’t get those parts a lot of the time. When they come along in a movie like Adventureland, I try to jump at them usually, if it’s a good film. That’s just it though, if it’s a good movie, I don’t really care if I’m a big role or a small role.

You were just a kid in the ’80s when this movie is set. Did you have any special like favorite movies or music from the ’80s?
For me, I loved Say Anything. That was a huge movie for me when I was a kid. I think for a lot of guys my age, it was. You always have that moment where you picture yourself with a ghetto blaster over your head and blasting it out for the one you love. In reality, you’d be arrested for doing that. But I love that movie. I was a huge fan of Being There, but I don’t know if that was an ’80s movie or not. It’s such an indelible decade — the ’90s was this vaguely forgettable decade, style wise. It’s more of a hodgepodge of the previous three decades. So the ’80s really had this je ne sais quois unto itself that is always fun to explore.

Are you still auditioning or are people hiring you based on the fact that they want Ryan Reynolds in their film?
Truthfully, I haven't auditioned in a long, long time, but it’s never outside the realm of possibility. I mean if you want a film and they don’t want you, sometimes you have to go fight for it. Sometimes that ends up just being a meeting really, just sitting down with them and just saying here is my vision for it and here is why I really love it. But for the most part, I think filmmakers gravitate towards people that are excited – as excited as they are about the film and as passionate about it. So sometimes going after it isn't so much a function of auditioning as it is just sitting down with the filmmaker.

Do you ever make choices based on wanting to avoid being be typecast?
Not usually, no. I've never had a movie that I was the star of that made a billion dollars at the box office. Maybe things change for people when that happens. Maybe suddenly you're sort of pushed in that direction a lot more, but in a way, I've been lucky because of that. I can do a bunch of different stuff.

Having worked with Sandra Bullock now in The Proposal after knowing for so long, did you learn anything new about her?
She has an ability to compress an enormous amount of emotion and information in a single look. I think that’s the magic of her. I used to think it was because she was the girl next door or she’s America’s sweetheart or any of that crap – but no, it’s the fact that she’s got some sort of weird, bizarre supernatural gift that I’m deeply envious of and would love to have some day. We've been friends for a long time, but we haven't been up in each other’s grill for 15 hours a day for three months. So thankfully, that all worked out well and she didn’t stick her three-legged dogs on me.

Once a typical teenager living in Fullerton, Calif., Gwen Stefani admits that the rock star lifestyle she now leads with husband Gavin Rossdaleand their two children Kingston James McGregor, 3, and Zuma Nesta Rock, 1, is a reality that is at times hard to accept.

“I grew up in a normal family,” she reveals in the September issue ofGlamour. However, it is her day-to-day routine that leaves the songstress realizing that her childhood sense of normalcy is long gone.

“Yesterday…at the end of the night, I was there with [Kingston] putting him to bed, reading all his books, getting his diaper on and putting him in his crib. Then I got [Zuma], nursed him, put him to sleep. Then I went to a Hollywood party! It is extremelydifferent from how my parents raised me.”

While she jokes that she may just be a “late bloomer” and her days of creating a stir in the media are still to come, Gwen credits her upbringing as the reason she stays grounded. Her lack of negative attention in the spotlight often leaves the mother-of-two imagining how she will ensure the same rings true for her boys.

“I was thinking today when I was driving, ‘How am I going to make sure that Kingston never does anything bad and doesn’t get arrested?’” she muses. “I was thinking, ‘How did I stay out of trouble?’ And I know it’s just ’cause my parents are so strict. I mean, I’m still scared of them!”

Fortunately for Gwen, her recipe for success from her own “sweet parents” is never far — she shares that the couple are a big part of Kingston and Zuma’s lives, often watching the kids when she is busy.

The journey of motherhood — and raising well-rounded kids — is not an easy one, admits Gwen, who never realized how difficult the responsibility would be. “I’ve always worked really hard, and the hardest thing I’ve ever done is have kids!” she notes. “Everything from getting up in the morning to trying to be consistent to trying to have the right feelings. But, of course, the rewards are great.”

Although Gwen never envisioned the abrupt turns her life has taken, she finds everything that much easier with Gavin by her side. “I always thought he’d be a good dad,” she said, quoting her hit “Simple Kind of Life.” And he has basically lived up to that and beyond, beyond.”

“He’s very, very passionate, and he’s very intense. He’s made to be a dad. I’m very lucky.”

It appears as though there are no shortage of reasons for Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham to celebrate.

Fresh on the heels of their August 1stwedding, Rhea was spotted on Sunday at The Grove in Los Angeles sporting quite the baby bump.

Though no official announcement has been made, a source says the couple are expecting their fourth child.

Already parents to Ella Rae, turning 6 tomorrow, Michael, 3, and Brendan Joseph, 11 ½ months, they have made no secret of their desire for a big family.

Last summer, Mark — 38-year-old executive producer of the HBO smash Entourage —joked that “when the kids are good, we want eight or nine.”

He went on to call life in a full house “hectic…but a lot of fun.”

The actor’s rep did not respond to requests for comment.

Next up for Mark is the Peter Jackson-directed feature film The Lovely Bones opposite Rachel Weisz, in theaters on Dec. 11.

Greg Grunberg on Son’s Epilepsy: ‘Don’t Let it Define You’

If you’ve ever witnessed a stranger suffering a seizure, you know how scary those moments can be; For those who live with epilepsy on a daily basis, however, seizures are just another fact of life. Actor Greg Grunberg falls into the latter category, as dad to 13-year-old Jake, who was diagnosed with epilepsy. In creating TalkAboutIt.org, however, theHeroes star says he hopes to remove the fear factor often associated with a seizure.

“I was getting ready for a speech on epilepsy and I was thinking, ‘If I’m going to make an impact, what does this community really need?’” he recalls in a new interview with PARADE. “From talking to all the top docs and people in the community, I kept hearing the same phrase in the back of my head, ‘If we could just get people to talk about this.’” Noting that “if everyone knew about it, it wouldn’t be so scary,” Greg adds,

“It’s interesting because I approach it from the [perspective of the] father of a child who has epilepsy. I’m incredibly passionate about it. It’s made me relate to anybody. Everybody’s got something they’re dealing with. I mean, I’ve got cholesterol that I have to watch. This is what we teach our son, don’t let it define you, but at the same time deal with it, don’t hide it or be ashamed of it.”

Teaching Jake and his little brothers Ben, 9, and Sam, 5, to accept themselves for who they are has, in turn, enabled Greg’s kids to be similarly accepting of others. “My kids are the ones who see another child or person in a wheelchair and walk up to them and go, ‘Hey what’s the matter? What happened?’” Greg proudly reports. “It’s not like they look out of the corner of their eye and they’re scared.”

“They deal with this every day. Like a kid in class who might be autistic, they end up being their best friend. And Jake leads a walk in D.C. with 15,000 people behind him. He’s got his arms in the air and he’s leading this walk on the Mall and I’m really proud.”

Between his website, his acting career, his rock band or even his entrepreneurial endeavours– Greg is creator of the iPhone app Yowza — finding time to unwind is tough; When it arises, however, Greg says he chooses to spend it with his sons. “Playing with the kids and spending time with them is great,” he explains. “It keeps me in that child mindset. Without my kids and my family, I’ve got nothing.”

Her two daughters Ripley, turning nine this month, and Nico, 4 ½, are apparently of like mind, and both girls enjoy watching their mom get awards show ready. “They say, ‘Mummy pretty’ and all that,” Thandie reveals. “Nico watched Norbit the other day on DVD…I don’t think she understood it but she spent the whole time stroking the screen and saying, ‘Mama?’”

While she was no doubt intrigued by what she saw, Thandie says it is her older daughter who is most interested in becoming an actress.

“That’s how fame seems to children. They think it’s all glamour and glitz, but it’s really hard work.”

Hard work that Thandie won’t give up anytime soon. When asked whether she’d consider becoming a full-time mom, she answered with a definitive “no” before adding, “I like escape, just as everyone else does.” Getting the fantasy to mesh with the reality can be difficult. “It’s called the fame game, isn’t it?” she asks.

“In my day-to-day life I feel I am a wife and mother. I take the kids to school. I pick them up. We go to the park. I make food, that type of thing…I cannot believe how much I love them.”

That sense of normalcy extends to Thandie’s view of her body as it has changed since welcoming her daughters. “I fed them both and carried them in me,” she points out. “When I see women who have plastic surgery done to their boobs I think, ‘How can you when they have fed your children?’”

The reason for the change? “We’re lucky both Poet and Mason have younger siblings,” says Soleil, 33. “When they play together with other children, they know to be nice to each other.” Uh…sometimes. “There’s accidental whacking each other in the head with toys,” says Melissa, 33.

Then there’s Mason’s crush on Poet. “He tries to love on her, but she’s like, ‘Go away!’ ” says Melissa. But Soleil predicts the kids will get past their differences: “Jagger and Braydon already like each other. And Poet’s falling in love with Mason eventually.”

Actress and songstress Jada Pinkett Smith, 37, wears many hats, but there is one hat which clearly suits her best. “Family is number one,” she tells the September issue of Good Housekeeping magazine. “I figure out how I can give them what they need, and in turn be given the time to do what I want.” To that end, when she was mulling over the idea of joining the cast of HawthoRNe, Jada says that it was the input ofJaden Christopher Syre, 11, and Willow Camille Reign, 8 ½, she sought above all others.

“I sat my kids down and said, ‘There’s a project that Mommy wants to do,’” she recalls, “‘It’s going to be three months, and there might be days that I’m not going to be here when you wake up or when you go to bed. But then I might have two days off, and you can have Mommy all to yourself.’” Fortunately for fans of the TNT show, Jaden and Willow encouraged their mom to take the part.

“Their response was, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s cool, Ma!’ Willow said, ‘When you come home late, will you just come in my bedroom and give me a kiss?’”

Recognizing where to draw the line between career and family is somewhat complicated, however, by the fact that both kids are up-and-coming actors in their own right. “The whole family is spending the summer in China, where Jaden’s shooting a remake of The Karate Kid,” Jada notes. “I was going to be in the film with him, but I decided that when he’s working, he needs Mommy — just Mommy, who gives the apples with the peanut butter.”

When the family of five — which includes husband Will Smith, and Will’s son Trey, 16, from a previous marriage — aren’t on location, Jada says they’re often hanging out near home. “We’ll go outside on the trampoline or the swing, take a nature walk, bake,” she reveals. “I love to bake — that’s the only thing I do. I don’t cook at all. I can’t. My mother didn’t cook; my grandmother couldn’t cook a lick!” You won’t hear the kids criticizing Jada’s cooking, however, for Jada says that her unbreakable mom rule is respect. She elaborates,

“My kids are extremely respectful. You might not have to go to bed at a certain time, but do not talk crooked to anybody! Always treat people the way you want to be treated.”

HawthoRNe airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on TNT.

Katherine Heigl Hosts Ellen Pompeo’s Baby Shower

Mom-to-be Ellen Pompeo was joined by 25 friends, including Kate Walsh, Sandra Oh and Rebecca Gayheart, for a baby shower held Saturday afternoon at Katherine Heigl’s home in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.

Ellen and her husband Chris Ivery are expecting a baby daughter in October.

As an eyewitness told PEOPLE, “Ellen looked gorgeous in a white summer dress with her hair in a braided up-do. She seemed very excited to celebrate with her girlfriends.”

The catered, outdoor baby bash was held in the backyard. Umbrellas shielded guests from the heat – L.A. temps reached 104 degrees Saturday – and pink flower arrangements and candles accented the tables.

Guests brought gifts wrapped in girly pink and yellow colors. Many of the gifts – which included a Sleep Sheep toy mobile, Sleepy Safari stacking toys, organic hooded towels and a Kiddopotamus organic swaddle wrap – came from the Juvenile Shop in Sherman Oaks, where Ellen is registered.

The nomadic existence of an actor isn’t always conducive to family life, but Monica Bellucci feels that life is what you make it. “The most important thing with children is to give them your time,” she tells theDaily Mail. “Actually, that’s all that matters.” To that end, while the 44-year-old actress and her daughter Deva — turning five next month — are currently living out of a New York City hotel, Monica concedes that their globetrotting days are coming to a close. “In a year, Deva’s going to have to go to school and I’m going to have to decide where we base ourselves,” she notes.

“She’s very easy. She travels so much that she can fall asleep in any bed — she’s like a gypsy baby. Right now, her base is her mother and her father, even though the scenery changes.”

As for just where the family-of-three — which includes Monica’s husband Vincent Cassel — will eventually settle down, it remains to be seen. “Truly, I am a woman of the last minute,” Monica says. “When I was pregnant I organized three different hospitals because I couldn’t decide where I wanted to have my baby: London, Rome or Paris. In the end, I decided to go to Rome, arrived on the Monday and gave birth on the Saturday.”

The timing was fortuitous in more ways than one. “Deva arrived at a perfect moment for me,” Monica says. “I have done so many things in my life, been to so many places, had some great times — but when she came I was ready to give her everything.”

“I am at a stage in my life where if I don’t go out, I don’t feel I’m missing something. I get bored surrounded by people smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol… And I’m not so interested now in going to premieres, or being photographed on the red carpet. I want to be with her.”

From the sound of things, Monica doesn’t have the energy for a night out on the town anyway! “Kids steal your sleep,” she notes. “I didn’t sleep for two years…I was breastfeeding for nine months.” She adds,

“But I was so happy to become a mother, I don’t mind any of the sacrifices. They are the ways in which you learn to be a mother.”

When former Real World star Rachel Campos-Duffy famously auditioned for — and lost — a spot on ABC’s The View, it was a blessing in disguise. The 37-year-old mom-of-five says that retreating to Ashland, Wisconsin to focus all her time and energy on her growing brood was the path she was meant to take all along. “People are focusing so much on the idea of at-home motherhood and whether it is good for kids or not,” she notes in a new interview. “In my situation, it is good for my kids.”

In her book Stay Home, Stay Happy: Ten Secrets to Loving At-Home Motherhood, which she describes as a “love letter” to at-home moms,” Rachel says she makes “no judgment about what works for other families.” Instead, she points out what is is often missing in the debate between moms who work outside the home and at-home moms — the “pleasure” that being an at-home mom brings. “I really like what I do,” Rachel says,

“What’s interesting to me is that when I express that, whether through my blog or in my book, people kind of look at me like either I’m crazy or I’m a Stepford wife. It’s so hard for people to imagine that I love doing it. I think the reason they find it hard to believe that I love it is because it’s hard work.”

She adds,

“There are a lot of things out there that are hard work. Yet, as an at-home mom, when you say: “I love what I do,” people look at you like you’re wearing rose-colored glasses. You must not be telling us the full story.”

If anyone were to doubt that her feelings are genuine, they need look no further than her family with husband (attorney, Congressional candidate and fellow Real World star) Sean Duffy — for the couple haven’t ruled out a sixth child! “We’re not opposed to the idea, but if I did, I’d like to say that would be the last,” Rachel says.

Together, Rachel and Sean are parents to Eva Pilar, 9 ½, Jack, 7 ½, Lucia Belen, 5, John Paul, 3, and Paloma Pilar, 15 months.

As the producer and host of Project Runway, designer of several clothing, shoe and fragrance lines, and a mother of three, Heidi Klum is no stranger to making tough decisions. However, due with her fourth child — a girl — in October, the Victoria’s Secret Angel admits to USA Today that she has finally been stumped in choosing a name for her daughter! “Because we know it’s going to be our last baby, it’s way harder,” she explains.

“Before it was like, ‘This is the name and that’s that.’ We’re going to wait until we see the baby and hopefully the light bulb will come on and then it’ll be like, ding-ding-ding!”

While the name game may be weighing heavily on Heidi and her husband Seal’s minds, the model has been kept busy with the day-to-day job of running the household. Noting that she would have made “a very good event planner,” Heidi designated herself “captain of the ship” this summer when Seal hit the road on tour in Europe. “I’m definitely the organizer of who is doing what,” she shares. “What are we eating, where are we going, what’s the plan for the day; Making sure everything runs smoothly.”

Fortunately, her top-notch management skills always include play time for Leni, 5, Henry, 3 ½, andJohan, 2 ½, who are given free reign of the house. “I’m not someone who is like, ‘Okay, this is a museum and you can’t sit here and you can’t touch this and everything has to be put in its place,’” Heidi explains.

“They live there as much as we do. You come into our house and there is a giant elephant and lion to welcome you. We have those big stuffed animals and we have toys and things everywhere.”

Still holding strong on her stance that baby-on-the-way will be their last, Heidi laughs that the couple are being overrun by their troops! “We’re outnumbered,” she jokes. “Four is perfect. Three is a lot. But four? It’s a lot of work.” According to expectant mama, as two actively involved parents, the pair have reached their limit.

“We’re hands-on and we feel like this is what we can handle.”

David: There is a really strong connection between Shaya and me. He is very deep when he looks at you. Having my son has been a dream come true and I really feel we’re going to be close.

Brooke: Three was much easier. Four rocked my world because two of them are young enough that they absolutely need me at all times. There is a lot of action, and it’s a lot busier. We all help.

David: It’s very, very hard, because there is always somebody that needs something. At the end of the day when everybody is asleep, we’re so exhausted from starting at 5:30, 6 o’clock in the morning…

Brooke: Like, you know that date we thought we wanted to go on? We’re too tired. A lot of couples have date nights — but they don’t have four kids!

David: Instead, we’ll have dinner at night in the cabana, have a big fire and bring out the instruments.
